The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 34-year-old man, Tahamado Demian, for his alleged involvement in the abduction of two Catholic priests—Reverend Father Abraham Samman from the Jalingo Diocese and Reverend Father Matthew Dusami from the Yola Diocese.
Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje confirmed the arrest in a statement posted on X on Saturday night.
According to the statement, security operatives rescued the priests on February 21, 2025, during a raid on a criminal hideout in Gwaida Malam village, situated between Numan and Demsa local government areas.
The victims were found unharmed, and no ransom was paid. They are currently receiving medical attention.
During the operation, authorities recovered a locally-made assault rifle, a mobile phone, and multiple SIM cards.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect was a member of the same church as the kidnapped priests.
Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, praised the collaboration between security agencies, government bodies, and the public.
He urged continued support to strengthen security measures across the state.
