BREAKING: Multiple crashes cause gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Must read

A series of accidents near the NASFAT roundabout on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway led to severe traffic congestion on Sunday morning, leaving many motorists stranded.

The crashes, which occurred shortly after 7 a.m., involved two trucks and several other vehicles, creating significant disruptions.

Officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police arrived at the scene to manage traffic, clear debris, and assist those affected.

Providing an update on the situation, TRACE Deputy Commander for the Mowe-Ibafo axis, Mr. Kabir Ojerinde, shared details from an eyewitness account.

“A trailer heading from Lagos lost control while trying to avoid a smaller vehicle crossing at the NASFAT roundabout. In the process, it veered off course and collided with multiple vehicles,” he explained.

Emergency responders have since been working to remove the wreckage, and one of the trucks, which was carrying a large load of watermelons, has already been cleared from the road to improve traffic flow.

While the exact cause of the accidents has yet to be determined, speeding and poor visibility are suspected to have played a role.

Regarding possible casualties and vehicle identification, Ojerinde stated that an official report on the incident would be released soon.

Meanwhile, motorists have been urged to drive cautiously as emergency teams continue their operations to restore normal traffic movement.
