Nasiru Abdullahi Mai Kano, a trusted associate of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been named the interim chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State.
His appointment is part of a broader reorganization within the party.
Mai Kano, a former legislator who represented Unguwar Sanusi Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, will serve in this capacity for an initial period of three months.
According to party insiders, the new leadership structure will be reviewed at the end of the term, with the possibility of adjustments.
A source within the SDP indicated that more political figures linked to El-Rufai are expected to join the party soon. “We anticipate the arrival of more of our people in the coming days,” the insider disclosed.
Confirming the changes, Muhammad Zaria, the Legal Adviser of the SDP Caretaker Committee, released the full list of newly appointed executives.
“Yes, Nasiru Mai Kano is now the interim chairman of Kaduna SDP. The Secretary-General is Iriniya Kantiyok, while Honourable Mas’ud has been appointed as the Vice Chairman,” Zaria stated.
Mai Kano’s emergence as the party’s leader underscores the growing influence of El-Rufai’s political allies in the SDP’s restructuring efforts.
