The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has interrogated former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of financial misconduct, procurement violations, and misappropriation of public funds amounting to N138,413,253.89.

Sources revealed that the former minister arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Thursday at 11:00 AM and has been undergoing questioning regarding the alleged diversion of funds meant for projects under the 2023 budget of the Ministry of Women Affairs.

Investigations indicate that the mismanaged funds were allocated for the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative but were allegedly redirected for personal use.

An EFCC source confirmed that due process was not followed in the disbursement of the ministry’s budget, with evidence suggesting a clear violation of financial regulations.

“The former minister is being questioned over alleged misappropriation, procurement breaches, and unauthorized use of public funds. There are indications that funds meant for women-centered initiatives were diverted for personal gain,” the source stated.

Additionally, the EFCC is probing Ohanenye’s involvement in other financial irregularities, including procurement law violations and unauthorized expenditure of government funds.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, an EFCC witness in the ongoing trial of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mohammed, contradicted himself in court regarding a property transaction linked to alleged money laundering.

The trial, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, involves accusations of a N33.8 billion financial crime related to the Mambilla Power Project.
