A 37-year-old man, Ifaseyi Adesina, was brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday for allegedly being a member of a secret society.
Adesina, whose residential address was not disclosed, faced three charges, including conspiracy, unlawful society membership, and possession of a live cartridge. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Owolabi, the defendant committed the alleged offences in 2022 at Amuloko, Ibadan. Owolabi stated that Adesina was found in possession of a live cartridge but could not explain how he got it. He further alleged that the defendant was a member of the ‘Alora’ confraternity.
The prosecutor noted that the offences violated Sections 516, 64(a), and 430 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000. Magistrate Gladys Oladele granted Adesina bail in the sum of N200,000, requiring two sureties of the same amount.
The case was adjourned until April 9 for mention.
