LG youth leader shot dead in tricycle park dispute

Must read

A youth leader in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chidebe Ibeakuzie, popularly known as Mighty, was fatally shot in a violent confrontation over the control of a tricycle park near the military cantonment in Onitsha.

Sources revealed that security operatives were responsible for the shooting, which stemmed from a dispute between the families of the late Tochukwu Anyaoku, an Obosi native, and Edward Ibuzo, a former Anambra State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency.

The late Anyaoku had managed the park before his passing in 2023, after which his wife took over operations.

However, Ibuzo reportedly claimed ownership of the land, leading to a heated standoff.

During the clash, two Obosi youths were allegedly abducted, while several others, including tricycle operators and bystanders, sustained gunshot wounds.

Obosi youths accused Ibuzo of orchestrating the attack by enlisting operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), whom they claim were responsible for Mighty’s death.

Ibuzo, however, denied any involvement, asserting via a WhatsApp call to journalists that he was in Germany when the incident occurred.

He also stated that he had a court judgment granting him control of the park.

According to him, DSS operatives had only intervened after witnessing what they believed to be a kidnapping, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Meanwhile, a key Obosi figure, Omezie Chukwurah, also known as “Governor Obosi,” condemned the ongoing violence, disclosing that a previous police intervention had resulted in another Obosi youth being shot in the head.

He further alleged that the operatives responsible for Mighty’s death arrived in vehicles linked to Ibuzo.
