The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a former immigration officer accused of selling firearms to bandits operating along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.
According to the police, the suspect, who was dismissed from the Nigerian Immigration Service, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation.
Mustapha Mohammed, head of the police anti-kidnapping unit, confirmed that security operatives intercepted the arms before they could reach the criminals.
He explained that the timely intelligence gathering played a crucial role in preventing the weapons from falling into the hands of bandits hiding in the Abuja-Kaduna forest.
Among the recovered firearms was a Scorpion CZ EVO3, a sophisticated fully automatic weapon equipped with an inbuilt silencer.
Mohammed revealed that the seized firearm was a 2022 model of the Scorpion series, capable of holding up to 30 rounds in its magazine, depending on its configuration.
Additionally, police operatives recovered 52 rounds of ammunition and other incriminating items from the suspect.
