Tinubu chairs second FEC meeting of the week

Must read

President Bola Tinubu presided over a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, marking the second gathering of the council within the week following an earlier session on Monday.

During Monday’s meeting, several proposals were approved, including the completion of the Oyo-Ogbomoso road project and the licensing of new private universities across the country.

While the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting was not disclosed beforehand, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris had previously announced that another council session was scheduled for the day.

At the start of the meeting, the FEC observed a minute of silence in memory of two former government officials who recently passed away.

The council paid tribute to Adenike Oyagbola, Nigeria’s first female minister who served under President Shehu Shagari, and Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Education and later Commissioner for Information.

In a separate development, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, refuted claims that he labelled the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Rivers State political crisis as reckless.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Obi clarified that while he may not personally agree with the ruling, he never described it in such terms.

He explained that his comments had been misrepresented and taken out of context.
