Reps summon Labour Minister over delay in NSITF board inauguration

Must read

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, to explain the delay in inaugurating the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) board.

The invitation was issued following a petition submitted by the Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation and the Advancement of Social Justice and Economic Development Initiative (ASJEDI) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Chairman of the committee, Rep. Mike Etabo (APC-Cross River), stated that the minister must appear in person to address the concerns raised.

Additionally, he directed the Managing Director of NSITF, Faleye Mayomi, to also appear before the committee over alleged violations of project clearance regulations.

According to the petitioners, President Bola Tinubu had appointed a managing director for the fund but had yet to constitute and inaugurate the board, a situation they described as an anomaly.

They argued that the absence of a governing board had created room for irregularities in the agency’s operations.

“Our responsibility is to serve Nigerians efficiently and ensure due process is followed. Summoning the CEO is necessary to clarify these concerns,” Etabo stated.

He further emphasized that since the issue implicates the government, it is essential for the minister to provide clarity on the matter.
