Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has stated that the National Assembly is actively enacting laws to position Nigeria for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Tuesday, Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, emphasized that several legislative measures are already impacting citizens’ lives and contributing to the country’s economic growth.

He reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly to fostering a resilient economy and strengthening the nation’s political framework to ensure security and stability.

“As Senate Leader, I have worked with my colleagues across party lines to pass critical legislation aimed at enhancing economic competitiveness and laying the foundation for Nigeria to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Many of these laws are already benefiting our citizens,” he said.

Bamidele also highlighted the importance of collaboration with international parliamentary institutions to strengthen institutional capacity.

On gender inclusivity, he assured the delegation that the 10th Senate would prioritize the issue to promote greater representation of women in governance.

In her remarks, the head of the UK delegation, Kate Osamor, advocated for increased female representation in Nigeria’s National Assembly, stressing the need to bridge the gender gap in elective positions.

“We must ensure that more women are part of the legislature. A society’s progress is reflected in the diversity of its elected representatives,” Osamor stated.
