A domestic dispute in Bauchi State took a gruesome turn as 28-year-old Fatima Mohammed allegedly strangled her co-wife, Hajara Isa, to death before attempting to conceal the crime by burning the body.
The tragic event unfolded on February 28, 2025, within their shared home.
However, the incident only came to light on March 3 when a family member, Sale Isa from Anguwan Sarakuna, Bauchi, raised concerns and reported the suspicious death to the authorities.
According to police sources, Fatima is believed to have overpowered 20-year-old Hajara in a suspected case of jealousy or rivalry, choking her until she stopped breathing.
In an attempt to erase evidence, she allegedly doused the body with boiling water and set it on fire using a melted Bagco sack.
Detectives from the C Division Police Headquarters took charge of the investigation, uncovering details that led to Fatima’s apprehension.
Police spokesperson CSP Ahmed Wakili confirmed in a statement that the suspect allegedly admitted to committing the crime during interrogation.
The case has since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further forensic analysis.
Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Muhammad has assured the public that a full-scale investigation is underway to ensure justice is served.
