The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended three suspects in connection with the recent assault on members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area.

According to reports, the attack occurred on Sunday, February 23, as the students were travelling to Abuja for their annual convention.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, issued a statement on Tuesday in Akure, detailing the swift police intervention.

Odunlami revealed that an emergency call from one of the victims alerted the command to the unprovoked assault by a group of youths in Ogbese.

In response, officers were immediately deployed to the scene to restore order, ensure the safety of the students, and initiate a manhunt for the attackers.

“Intelligence gathered suggests that this was not the first time NANS members have faced attacks in the community.

However, through intelligence-driven policing, our special squad successfully tracked and arrested three suspects linked to the incident,” Odunlami stated.

The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, assured NANS members of a thorough investigation to uncover the full details of the attack and bring all those involved to justice.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting both residents and travellers across the state.

Odunlami further disclosed that the arrested individuals are currently being interrogated and will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.

She urged the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, the NANS delegation, led by Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, commended the police for their swift response and reiterated the association’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to combat crime in the state.
