Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is currently engaged in a crucial meeting with Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Lagos State Attorney General Lawal Mohammed Alade Pedro (SAN), APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and 38 lawmakers.
The meeting is taking place at the assembly garden ahead of the plenary session scheduled for later today.
While details of the discussion remain undisclosed, sources suggest the meeting is connected to the recent crisis within the assembly.
Last week, Obasa defied his impeachment by a majority of lawmakers and convened a plenary session with just four legislators, an action that intensified the political tension in the assembly. His removal had paved the way for the election of Meranda as the new Speaker.
However, speculations indicate that Meranda may step down following interventions from the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has heightened security around the assembly complex, deploying officers to prevent any disturbances from unauthorized individuals.
