The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended three individuals linked to a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
According to a statement released in Dutse by the command’s spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, the suspects were taken into custody on February 8, 2025, in Illela town, Sokoto State.
The arrested individuals, identified as 30-year-old Malam Adamu Aliyu, 37-year-old Malam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, and 80-year-old Malam Nafiu Ibrahim, are residents of Hadejia, Auyo, and Miga Local Government Areas, respectively.
Investigations revealed that the trio allegedly conspired to swindle a 19-year-old victim, Ahmad Abdullahi, out of ₦400,000.
When the young man demanded his money back, they reportedly lured him to a riverside in Hadejia town, strangled him, and disposed of his body in the river.
Following the crime, the suspects fled to the Niger Republic but were eventually tracked down and returned to Jigawa State.
“The case has been charged to court, and justice will be served,” SP Shiisu stated.
Other criminal cases in Jigawa
In a separate incident, police arrested an 18-year-old, Ahmed Habibu, on February 24, 2025, for stealing a motorcycle valued at ₦600,000.
Authorities successfully recovered the stolen bike in his possession.
Similarly, 30-year-old Manniru Yusuf was taken into custody for allegedly attempting to kill a 50-year-old woman, Ramma Sule.
Reports indicate that Yusuf, armed with a locally made pistol, tried to shoot Sule, believing she was responsible for his daughter’s illness.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further inquiry.
Meanwhile, security operatives in Bariki Quarters, Hadejia, intercepted suspected armed robbers who abandoned their loot and escaped.
Items recovered from the scene included two locally made rifles, three live AK-47 rounds, ₦36,000 in cash, and multiple bags of rice.
SP Shiisu commended officers for their swift response and called on residents to cooperate with security agencies in the ongoing fight against crime.
