Shehu Sani gives reasons for rejoining APC

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Hard Copy, a Channels Television program, Sani credited his return to the reconciliation efforts led by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who has been working to unite party members across the state.

Sani initially left the APC in October 2018 due to disagreements over the party’s primaries.

He later joined the PDP, secured its senatorial ticket, but lost the 2019 election to Uba Sani, the current governor.

After years in opposition, he officially rejoined the APC on February 16 alongside other defectors from the PDP and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

During the interview, Sani stressed that he was one of the founding members of the APC in Kaduna and played a key role in building the party’s structures. He explained that his exit in 2018 was due to political and personal differences with former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

“A situation forced many of us to leave the APC in 2018, but things have changed, so we have returned to the party in Kaduna,” he said.

He further recalled, “I was among those who built the APC in Kaduna. We set up the party’s structures, campaigned, and won the 2015 elections at both the senatorial and governorship levels. Along the way, I had differences with the then-governor, Nasir El-Rufai.”

Sani added that Governor Uba Sani’s leadership style and reconciliation efforts played a major role in his decision to return to the APC.
