Kogi Central backs Senator Natasha, warns against persecution

Must read

The people of Kogi Central Senatorial District have reaffirmed their strong support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan amid her ongoing dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 28, 2025, the Ebira People’s Association (EPA), the socio-cultural body representing the district, expressed confidence in Natasha’s leadership and cautioned against any form of political victimization.

“It is crucial to emphasize the unwavering support of Kogi Central Senatorial District for our distinguished Senator, Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. We remain confident in her representation in the Senate and insist that she must not be subjected to persecution for any reason,” the statement, signed by EPA President Dr. Godwin Oyibo, read.

The association also urged against ethnic narratives being attached to the controversy, calling for an unbiased resolution of the matter within the Senate.

“We have observed recent developments, from the controversial ‘nightclub’ remark to her abrupt removal as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content and the sudden displacement from her seat in the chamber,” the statement noted.

The EPA condemned what it described as a growing trend of political intimidation and harassment, urging the Senate leadership to uphold fairness and democratic principles.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, the remarks, and the actions of certain individuals and groups. At the right time, we will respond accordingly,” the association warned.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan recently accused Senate President Akpabio of making inappropriate advances toward her.

This marks the second time Akpabio has faced such allegations, following similar claims by former NDDC official Joy Nunieh.
