Fire guts section of Lagos hospital

A late-night blaze engulfed part of Ago Medical Centre, located on Ago Palace Way in Okota, Lagos State.

The fire, which ignited around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, affected a section of the hospital housed in a one-story building.

As flames spread, doctors, nurses, and patients present at the facility quickly evacuated to safety.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), stated that emergency responders arrived at the scene at approximately 8:45 p.m.

According to preliminary findings by LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team, the fire was triggered by an electrical surge that caused a spark when power was restored.

Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were recorded.

Firefighters from LASEMA’s Response Team, the LRU Fire Unit, and other emergency responders managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
