FG pays NYSC members N33,000 again despite promise of N77,000

The federal government has once again paid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members N33,000 as their February allowance, despite earlier assurances that the amount would be increased to N77,000.

According to Peoples Gazette, Corps members have been expecting a higher allowance since President Bola Tinubu approved a new national minimum wage of N70,000 last year. However, the government has yet to adjust the NYSC payment to reflect this increase.

Many corps members have taken to social media to express their frustration, complaining about the difficult conditions they face due to the rising cost of living. Their hopes were raised in January when the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, told corps members in Katsina State that they would start receiving N77,000 from February.

However, when the February allowance was paid, it remained at N33,000, leaving many corps members disappointed.

Some corps members have voiced their anger online, with one saying, “They’ve given us 33k again! I’m tired of this selfish government.” Another wrote, “NYSC is making life unbearable. I spend over 100k every month, and 33k isn’t enough for data or transport. Is 77k too much to ask?”
