A violent attack by armed bandits in Karaga village, Bassa Ward, within Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, has left at least nine farmers dead and six others kidnapped.
The assault took place on Wednesday night when gunmen invaded the community, attacking residents in their homes.
Reports indicate that the assailants also raided Farin-Doki, another settlement in Shiroro LGA, where they looted livestock.
A local resident, speaking anonymously, confirmed that nine bodies had been recovered, though the death toll might increase as vigilante groups continue searching the surrounding forests for more victims.
“After launching their attack on Karaga, the gunmen moved to Farin-Doki, where they kidnapped six people and stole numerous cattle,” the source stated.
Another community member revealed that the attackers also struck Juwu-Farin-Doki, a village in Erena Ward of the LGA. However, no casualties were reported from that incident.
This latest assault highlights the worsening security situation in Niger State, where armed groups frequently raid rural communities, forcing residents to flee and disrupting agricultural activities.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
