Abductors demand N40m ransom for kidnapped Makurdi Varsity students

Must read

The abductors of female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JoSTUM), have reportedly demanded a ransom of N40 million for their release.

A close friend of one of the victims, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that the kidnappers had started reaching out to the students’ families, insisting on the payment.

“I heard they are asking for N40 million before letting the girls go, and they have even threatened to harm them if the money isn’t paid quickly,” the source said.

Expressing concern over the situation, the source called on authorities to intervene, noting that none of the victims’ parents could afford the amount being demanded.

The students were kidnapped on Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m. while heading to a lecture hall for studies. The incident sparked outrage among fellow students, who staged protests demanding their immediate release.

In response to the crisis, the university management ordered a one-week closure to address security concerns on campus.

The Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) also condemned the abduction and urged the kidnappers to release the students unconditionally and without delay.
