Shehu Sani urges security for NAFDAC DG amid death threats

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has called on security agencies to ensure the safety of the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye.

Sani’s appeal came in a post on 𝕏 on Thursday, following Adeyeye’s disclosure of threats to her life and the well-being of NAFDAC officials.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Adeyeye detailed the dangers her agency faces while combating the proliferation of fake and substandard drugs across Nigeria.

She revealed that NAFDAC staff have been directly targeted, citing an incident where a staff member’s child was kidnapped in Kano after the official refused to accept a bribe. Fortunately, the child managed to escape.

Reacting to these concerns, Sani stressed that Adeyeye had become a prime target due to her uncompromising stance against counterfeit drug syndicates.

“Prof. Moji must be protected. She has raised an alarm over threats to her life, clearly from those behind the production of fake drugs and adulterated food,” Sani stated.

He commended Adeyeye’s efforts, comparing her to the late Dora Akunyili, who was renowned for her fight against counterfeit pharmaceuticals.

“The threat against her is a threat to all Nigerians. These criminals want free rein to manufacture dangerous products, but she has consistently stood in their way,” he added.
