Kano gov vows action against civil servants salary irregularities, sets up probe panel

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a strong warning against the reported cases of salary underpayment and non-payment affecting civil servants, condemning the situation as an unjust violation of workers’ rights and a breach of public trust.

In a statement released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf pledged to uncover those responsible and hold them accountable.

“This administration will not condone any injustice against our workers. Anyone involved in this despicable act will be dealt with according to the law,” he stated.

To address the issue, the governor has established a high-level investigative committee tasked with identifying the causes of the payroll discrepancies, whether due to system errors or deliberate manipulation.

The panel has been directed to conduct a detailed audit of the state’s payroll from October 2024 to February 2025, identify affected employees, assess the financial implications, and propose both corrective measures and disciplinary actions.

Leading the seven-member committee is Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam, Commissioner for Rural & Community Development and former State Accountant General. The team consists of senior government officials and financial experts with expertise in payroll management.

With a strict deadline of seven days, the committee is expected to submit a comprehensive report detailing those responsible for the malpractice, the scale of financial mismanagement, and long-term solutions to prevent future occurrences.

Governor Yusuf reassured civil servants of his administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and prompt salary payments, warning that anyone caught exploiting workers would face severe consequences.

“The days of shortchanging our workers are over. This government stands for accountability, and no one will be exempt if found guilty,” he affirmed.
