A team of security operatives from the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Zamfara State successfully thwarted a ransom payment attempt and eliminated a group of armed bandits in Ganuwa forest, Tsafe Local Government Area.
The operation took place on Wednesday after security personnel received intelligence about an impending ransom handover for a kidnapped victim.
Acting swiftly, they set up an ambush near the designated exchange point.
As the bandits emerged from their hideout to collect the ransom, they encountered the waiting security team.
A gunfight erupted when the criminals opened fire upon sighting the operatives.
Sources revealed that the JTF officers held their position strategically, allowing the assailants to exhaust their ammunition before launching a counteroffensive that resulted in their neutralization.
Two motorcycles and various weapons were recovered from the scene.
The kidnapped victim was safely rescued and has since been reunited with his family in good health.
