The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the sack threat issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against local government workers, describing it as harassment and a reflection of the party’s disregard for the rule of law.
Reinstated local government council officials, who were elected under the APC, had warned that workers who failed to resume on Monday would be dismissed.
In response, PDP’s Media Director, Oladele Bamiji, criticized the chairmen, stating that their actions were influenced by APC leaders who have a history of working against public servants.
According to Bamiji, “The sacked chairmen, who have now become mere instruments in the hands of their political masters, are once again proving that the APC has always opposed the welfare of workers.” The PDP further called on security agencies to investigate allegations of arms buildup involving APC chieftains.
However, the APC dismissed the PDP’s claims, accusing the ruling party of encouraging lawlessness. APC chieftain Jamiu Olawumi argued that the PDP was inciting workers against a legitimate court ruling.
“The situation is clear. A court has reinstated our elected officials. If the PDP is dissatisfied, they should seek redress legally instead of urging workers to defy the Appeal Court’s order,” Olawumi stated.
Meanwhile, former Osun lawmaker Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has appealed to the Federal Government to release funds directly to the reinstated APC council officials.
“The council chairmen have been unable to perform their duties since their removal in 2022. Now that the Court of Appeal has reinstated them, their allocations should be restored. This is an opportunity for grassroots governance to be revived,” Oyintiloye said.
He also commended the Inspector-General of Police for maintaining peace in the state.
