Immigration officer injured in attack by suspected Fulani herders at Niger border

A Nigerian Immigration officer was injured following an attack by suspected Fulani herders near the Babanna border in Niger State.

According to intelligence reports from Zagazola Makama, on Wednesday, the incident took place on February 24, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Assistant Immigration Officer II Gomna Joseph (Service No. 45048 IA2) was patrolling Batanji Road, close to the Nigeria-Benin Republic border, alongside his team when they stopped three Fulani men travelling on a motorcycle from Batanji Village in Benin Republic.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects cut Officer Joseph with a sword on the chest.

However, quickly acting in self-defence, the officer fired his AK-47 rifle, striking the attacker in the legs.

The injured suspect and the officer were taken to a hospital in Benin Republic for medical care.

Their current condition remains undisclosed as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
