An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of a 55-year-old man, Moyosore Johnson, who is accused of posing as a doctor and allegedly causing the death of a woman.
Johnson, whose residential address was not disclosed, was arraigned on four charges, including conspiracy and unlawfully causing death.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate Kausarat Ayofe stated that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter and, as a result, did not take the defendant’s plea.
She directed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The case was adjourned until March 27 for further mention.
Prosecuting the case, Inspector Segun Adegboye informed the court that the alleged offences took place on July 5, 2024, around 10:00 a.m. at Apata Igbala Hospital in Iseyin, Oyo State.
Adegboye stated that Johnson, without proper medical qualifications, performed surgery on 26-year-old Badirat Adebayo, leading to complications that resulted in her death.
He further alleged that the defendant removed Adebayo’s womb during the procedure, which contributed to the fatal outcome.
The prosecution noted that the alleged offences violate Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
