A tragic accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl, while her 15-year-old sister sustained serious injuries after being hit by a speeding driver on the BRT lane.

The Lagos State Police Command, in a statement released on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the incident occurred on Monday at Ogundare bus stop.

“On Monday, February 24, 2025, at about 3:35 pm, a yet-to-be-identified driver, while speeding along the BRT lane at Ogundare bus stop, hit two female pedestrians—siblings aged 12 and 15—who were returning from school,” the statement read.

Both victims suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Orile-Agege General Hospital for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, the younger sister did not survive, while the older sibling was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and called on motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and speed limits to prevent such tragedies.

“The Commissioner of Police commiserates with the bereaved family and assures that the police will ensure a speedy and conclusive investigation to bring the culprit to justice,” the statement added.
