Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, is leading a coordinated effort to tarnish his image, linking the move to Ribadu’s perceived presidential ambitions for 2031.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai claimed that Ribadu, in collaboration with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is behind a plot to damage his reputation.
El-Rufai asserted that Ribadu views him as a political threat and is determined to discredit him.
“This entire agenda to ‘destroy Nasir El-Rufai’ originates from Nuhu Ribadu.
“He is the mastermind, working alongside Uba Sani to execute it. However, their efforts have not been successful so far,” El-Rufai stated.
The former governor further alleged that Ribadu is working to eliminate political rivals from northern Nigeria in anticipation of the 2031 elections.
“Why is my reputation under attack? It’s because Nuhu Ribadu wants to become president in 2031 and believes he must sideline every potential northern contender,” he added.
These accusations come amid escalating tensions between El-Rufai and Governor Sani, particularly concerning governance in Kaduna State.
Recently, Governor Sani publicly decried what he described as the state’s overwhelming debt burden—a statement widely interpreted as a veiled critique of El-Rufai’s administration.
