The Village Head of Dutsan Gaya in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Maitala Ariga Makama, has been discovered dead following his reported abduction by a local vigilante group known as Yan Sakai.
Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command stated that Makama’s remains were located on Sunday on the outskirts of Sabon Garin Rimau, within the same local government area.
A police source, speaking to Zagazola Makama, revealed that armed members of Yan Sakai allegedly invaded Dutsan Gaya in the early hours of the day and forcibly took the traditional leader.
“His body was later found bearing what appeared to be gunshot wounds,” the source disclosed.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kasuwan Magani led a team of law enforcement officers and vigilantes to the scene.
The deceased was transported to a village hospital, where a doctor officially confirmed his death.
Authorities have since held an emergency meeting with community and youth leaders from Dutsan Gaya and nearby villages, urging them to remain calm.
A senior security official, who preferred to remain anonymous, assured that the situation was under close observation and that investigations were underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, Makama’s body has been taken to Gomna Anwan General Hospital in Kakuri, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
