IPOB/ESN place N1 million bounty on security officers in South-East

Security intelligence has uncovered a concerning plan by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to target military and police officers in Imo State and the broader South-East region.

According to intelligence sources cited by Zagazola Makama, the group has allegedly placed a N1 million bounty on each security officer successfully lured into a trap.

Reports suggest that IPOB/ESN operatives intend to use women and romantic relationships as bait to ambush or assassinate personnel.

The intelligence assessment indicates that this strategy is a retaliatory move following recent intensified security operations against IPOB/ESN elements.

The group is reportedly seeking revenge against law enforcement and the Nigerian government.

A recent case in Okigwe highlights the growing threat. On February 12, around 6:00 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okigwe Division reported that IPOB/ESN operatives had issued threats against a newly recruited police constable.

To pressure him into abandoning his duty, the attackers allegedly abducted his parents and confiscated their motorcycle.

Although his parents were later freed, the group has retained the seized motorcycle.

Security analysts warn that such tactics could escalate into a wider campaign involving kidnappings and targeted killings of security personnel, particularly in their homes or other vulnerable locations.

The report underscores the need for a coordinated security response to counter the threat and safeguard personnel operating in the South-East.
