A man with hearing impairment, Kuma Haruna, has taken his partner, Malma Bilkisu, to a Shari’a court in Kaduna State over the refusal of Bilkisu to fulfil her promise to marry him.
Also, Haruna is seeking the return of his savings, which he claims she has refused to refund.
Testifying in court, Haruna’s brother, Abubakar, stated that Haruna had been entrusting his money to Bilkisu over a long period.
However, when he requested a refund, she claimed to have only N80,000—far less than the N175,000 he expected.
The dispute was initially brought before a Shari’a court in Rigasa, where Bilkisu offered N80,000, but Haruna rejected the amount.
The judge, in that case, had advised both parties to swear on the Quran, but they never returned for a resolution.
The case has now been adjourned until March 17, when Bilkisu’s lawyer is expected to present her defence.
Beyond the financial dispute, Haruna is also seeking redress for what he says is Bilkisu’s refusal to fulfil her promise to marry him.
