Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), clashed with security personnel at the Federal High Court in Abuja after they attempted to prevent him from entering the premises.
The officers from the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were stationed at the court due to the trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who is facing allegations of public fund diversion and money laundering.
In a video shared on his X account, Sowore was seen engaging in a heated exchange with the security personnel.
He accused them of collaborating with corrupt leaders to undermine the nation’s judicial system and insisted that they had no legitimate reason to restrict access to the court.
He further criticized the officers for what he described as an unlawful takeover of the court premises in connection with the trial of “a thief” (referring to Yahaya Bello).
“Why are you shouting at me? Do I look like Yahaya Bello? I have business in court. I don’t need clearance from the police or the EFCC because none of you are court officials,” Sowore stated.
“This is a Federal High Court; bring a court official, and I will speak with them. The EFCC brought me to court, and they are still harassing us. You have no authority to block access to the court. You are not my lawyer and have no right to know my case,” he added.
Despite the officers’ initial resistance, Sowore persisted until a police officer eventually instructed his colleagues to allow him entry into the courthouse.
