The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State has instructed all affiliated workers to stay away from their workplaces due to the ongoing political unrest in the state.
AFRIPOST had reported that the state conducted its local government elections last Saturday despite warnings from the Nigeria Police.
The following day (Yesterday), Governor Ademola Adeleke swore in newly elected council members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging them to commence their duties immediately.
In a statement released on Monday, the Osun NLC chairperson, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, emphasized that the directive was necessary to protect workers from potential dangers.
Reaffirming an earlier stance, the statement read, “The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) upholds its previous directive advising all Local Government Area Workers to suspend their services due to the ongoing political disturbances in their workplaces. We also urge continuous prayers for the state.”
The statement further stressed that workers’ safety remains a top priority, adding, “We cannot allow our members to operate in an insecure environment.”
Reiterating its commitment to defending workers’ rights, the NLC vowed not to be intimidated, declaring, “We will not succumb to any attempts to suppress us.
“Our dedication to justice, fairness, and the rule of law in Osun State remains unwavering.”
