More NNPP leaders set to defect to APC – Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has stated that several high-ranking members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will soon join the ruling party.

Speaking at an empowerment program in Kano on Sunday, Ganduje expressed confidence that APC’s governance style and policies were drawing members of opposition parties into its fold.

“We sincerely appreciate your efforts in resisting pressure from various political groups, especially the declining NNPP,” Ganduje said.

He further claimed that defections from the NNPP to the APC were already happening discreetly.

“They are gradually joining us in silence. Very soon, we will officially welcome key figures, including senior officers, legislators, and senators from the NNPP. Former this, former that—they will all become part of our great party, the APC,” he added.

His remarks come amid speculation that dissatisfaction within the NNPP’s leadership is pushing some of its prominent members to consider joining the APC.

Meanwhile, Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin recently attended private ceremonies hosted by an NNPP senator in Kano, stirring political discussions.

Senator Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South under the NNPP, had previously left the APC ahead of the 2023 elections due to a prolonged leadership crisis within the party.
