KASU-ASUU ends strike after governor’s intervention

The Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called off its strike, signalling a resolution to a long-standing dispute with the state government.

The announcement came via a statement from ASUU-KASU Chairman Dr. Peter Adamu on Monday, following a decision made on Saturday.

The conflict, which predates Governor Uba Sani’s tenure, had festered over unpaid salaries and allowances.

Education Commissioner Professor Muhammad Sani Bello previously noted the governor’s proactive efforts to tackle these issues across state tertiary institutions.

Adamu praised Sani’s “swift and empathetic leadership,” highlighting the release of funds covering 60% of withheld September 2017 salaries and five sessions of SIWES supervision allowances.

Adamu added, “The government has set a clear schedule to address five months of withheld salaries from 2022, promotion arrears, academic allowances, pension dues from 2009-2019, death benefits, and group life assurance.”

He contrasted this with past administrations, stating, “Unlike the dark days of victimization, this intervention shows genuine goodwill.”

The suspension marks a significant step toward restoring academic stability at KASU.
