Edo: Man arrested for allegedly killing wife

Must read

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Kelvin Izekor, in connection with the death of his wife, Success Izekor, who was 38 years old.

A viral video circulating online shows police officers and concerned residents moving the woman’s body—bearing machete wounds on her head—from their home into a police vehicle.

The incident has left the community in shock, especially as the couple had only recently gotten married. A resident, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed disbelief, stating, “I still can’t process what happened. Imagine being killed by your own husband. They were newlyweds, and no one could have predicted such a tragedy.”

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. He revealed that Kelvin was nearly lynched by an angry crowd before officers intervened to restore order and take him into custody.

“On February 22, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m., we received a report that Kelvin Izekor, residing at No. 50 Upper Mission Extension, Benin City, had allegedly murdered his wife, Success Izekor. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the woman’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, with deep head wounds,” Yamu stated.

He added that police had to work hard to calm the enraged crowd before rescuing the suspect and taking him in for questioning. The victim was transported to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.

The Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, condemned the rising cases of domestic violence and assured the public of a thorough investigation.

She emphasized that anyone found guilty would face the full force of the law.
