APC rejects Osun LG election, calls it illegal, unconstitutional

Must read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly opposed the local government elections conducted in Osun State on Saturday, labeling the process illegal and unconstitutional.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for proceeding with the election despite a valid court ruling.

Morka referenced the Court of Appeal’s February 10 judgment, which reinstated local government officials who were removed by Adeleke’s executive order.

He emphasized that this decision nullified an earlier Federal High Court ruling and affirmed that the reinstated officials should serve until October 2025.

The APC spokesperson also condemned the appointment of caretaker committees by the governor, arguing that it violated Section 7(1) of the Nigerian Constitution.

He accused Adeleke of disregarding judicial authority and misusing public funds on what he described as a “sham election” that could provoke unrest.

Morka urged the governor to respect the rule of law and called on local government workers to continue their duties under the reinstated officials.

He also appealed to security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure peace in the state.

Furthermore, he urged the federal government to ensure that only legally recognized local government officials receive funding, emphasizing the need for democratic and judicial compliance in Osun State.
