Joe Igbokwe reveals experience after swallowing bone with pounded yam

Must read

Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has recounted a distressing incident where he accidentally swallowed a bone, leading to days of severe pain and an eventual surgical procedure.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, Igbokwe revealed that the ordeal began on Monday night, February 17, while eating pounded yam with okro soup. Unaware of a large bone in the meal, he swallowed a portion, only for it to get lodged in his throat.

Despite trying to push it down with more food, the obstruction persisted, causing significant discomfort.

The following morning, he sought medical assistance and underwent a scan, but doctors found no trace of the bone.

He was prescribed medication, yet the pain continued, and he remained unable to eat solid food.

Detailing his experience, Igbokwe wrote: “On Monday night, February 17, I was served soft pounded yam with okro soup. The first lump I swallowed got stuck in my throat due to a hidden bone I hadn’t noticed. I attempted to force it down with more food, but it wouldn’t budge. That was the beginning of my ordeal.”

He explained that after visiting the hospital on Tuesday, scans failed to detect the bone.

Despite taking prescribed medication, he endured persistent pain, sleepless nights, and had to survive on liquid meals like Quaker oats for several days.

His condition persisted until another scan on Friday revealed that the bone had finally moved down to his stomach, leaving multiple wounds in its path. Following a medical procedure, he finally experienced relief.

“A major surgery was performed after I was sedated. When I woke up, the excruciating pain had vanished. My gratitude goes to Marigold Hospital and Conel Hospital in Surulere. Above all, I thank God for seeing me through,” he added.
