Indian authorities have apprehended Yasin Khan, an employee at a chicken shop in Bellahalli, Bagalur, for allegedly killing a Nigerian national, Adiyako Masaliyo.
According to police reports, the incident took place on Wednesday after a man accused the 40-year-old Nigerian, who visited the shop with an associate, of acting suspiciously.
“A case of murder has been registered, and the suspect has been arrested,” the police stated.
The allegations stemmed from suspicions that Masaliyo was a drug dealer attempting to conceal illicit substances at the shop for buyers to retrieve later.
This led to an interrogation by Khan and some locals, escalating into a heated argument and physical altercation.
During the confrontation, Khan reportedly assaulted Masaliyo, who then grabbed a knife in self-defence and threatened to stab him.
In retaliation, Khan allegedly struck Masaliyo on the head with a reaper, causing severe injuries. The victim collapsed on the spot.
Authorities further revealed that as Masaliyo attempted to escape, he tripped on a stone and died instantly.
Citing sources, The Hindu reported that Khan and other witnesses had accused Masaliyo of being involved in drug trafficking and claimed that he initiated the violence.
However, police investigations so far have found no drugs or suspicious materials on the victim, nor any prior criminal records.
The case remains under investigation.
