A fire incident occurred at an MTN booster station located near the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Ibadan in the early hours of Saturday.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan.
According to Akinyinka, the fire service received a distress call at exactly 4:00 a.m. from an individual identified as Akinoso. In response, a team led by ACFS Olubunmi was promptly dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a Mikano electrical generator and its control board were already in flames. With support from fire marshals from the University of Ibadan, the blaze was successfully put out.
Akinyinka explained that while the fire damaged the generator and control board, other telecommunications equipment remained unaffected. He attributed the incident to an electrical surge.
