APC to assess Ganduje’s leadership at NEC meeting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, where key discussions will focus on financial reports, the leadership of National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and a review of the recent off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo states.

According to a document seen by PUNCH’s Correspondent, the meeting’s agenda includes deliberations on the party’s 2025 budget proposal, preparations for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, collection of dues from federal appointees and lawmakers, updates on e-membership registration, and a presentation on the newly established Progressive Institute.

A party source dismissed speculations that the meeting would signal Ganduje’s removal, stating, “This is a routine gathering to address party matters. Some may assume it’s about leadership changes, but that’s not the case. The focus is on fulfilling procedural obligations and addressing internal concerns.”

This will be the first NEC meeting since Ganduje assumed the position of National Chairman.

His appointment, along with that of National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, was confirmed during the last NEC session on August 3, 2023, at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

After being postponed last year, the National Caucus and NEC meetings have now been rescheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday.

A leaked memo signed by Basiru indicates that the National Caucus will convene at the Presidential Villa banquet hall on February 25, while the NEC meeting will take place the following day at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The meetings will be chaired by President Bola Tinubu and are expected to be attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and other top party officials.
