12 die, three injured in Niger road accident – FRSC

The Niger State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 12 people and injuries to three others following a tragic accident on the Agaie-Lapai Highway.

State FRSC Sector Commander, Kumar Tsukwam, informed journalists in Minna on Saturday that officials were still on-site, gathering precise information about the incident.

He assured that a detailed investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the crash, with more updates to follow.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened at Jippo Village, near Mashina community, when a bus traveling from Minna to Katcha Local Government Area collided head-on with a trailer.

Witnesses added that among the deceased were three women from the same family. Meanwhile, three injured individuals—including two women and the bus driver—are receiving medical care at Lapai General Hospital.

Recounting the incident from his hospital bed, the bus driver, Mohammed Baba, stated that the crash occurred when the trailer driver tried to overtake another vehicle, leading to a direct collision.
