The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has raised concerns over the sealing of the commission’s headquarters by security operatives on Saturday.
The development occurred as the state went ahead with the contentious local government elections despite opposition.
Speaking during a live program on Rave FM, Abioye expressed shock over the police action, stating, “I leave the Inspector General of Police in the hands of God.
The election is proceeding across polling units in the state, but from available reports, there is no noticeable police presence.”
Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke participated in the election, casting his vote in Ede.
He urged residents to remain peaceful throughout the process.
The police had earlier advised the Osun State Government against conducting the election, citing security concerns and possible legal implications.
The warning, however, did not stop the state electoral body from proceeding with the exercise.
