Group accuses Fubara of allocating N4.8bn monthly to Rep member, Ugochinyere

A civil society group, One Nigeria Movement (ONM), has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of allegedly channeling N4.8 billion monthly to House of Representatives member Ikenga Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North Federal Constituency in Imo State.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, ONM claimed that funds meant for the development of Rivers State were being diverted for political interests.

The group’s Convener General, Ahmed Sodiq-Mugoro, and Secretary, Babatunde Aliyu, urged the people of Rivers State to demand accountability and resist what they described as financial mismanagement under the guise of the ongoing political crisis in the state.

The group alleged that each of the 23 local government chairmen in Rivers State is required to contribute N100 million monthly as a “Political Development Fund,” while an additional N2.5 billion comes directly from Governor Fubara, amounting to N4.8 billion in total.

According to ONM, this money is supposedly allocated to the Action Peoples Party (APP), the platform under which the current local government chairmen and councillors contested the controversial council elections.

The group further claimed that Ugochinyere receives the entire sum on behalf of the party every month.

ONM called on Rivers residents to question Ugochinyere about what investments he has made in the state to justify such alleged financial benefits.

The group insisted that transparency and accountability must be prioritized to prevent the misuse of public funds.
