Police in Niger State have rescued a man identified as Nasiru Idris, who was discovered in Mariga forest with padlocks securing chains around his neck and hands.
Idris, a resident of Farin-Ruwa in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, had been left behind by his abductors.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed that operatives of the Niger State Police Command stumbled upon Idris on February 16, 2025, during a confidence-building patrol along the Bangi-Kontagora road.
The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division, Kontagora.
According to Abiodun, the kidnappers abandoned their captive and fled upon sighting the police.
The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment while efforts were ongoing to locate his family.
The police command has since launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances of Idris’s abduction and track down those responsible for the crime.
In a separate incident, law enforcement officers arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Hashimu Sani, on February 17, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m. in Kotonkoro village.
He was found in possession of two knives stained with what is suspected to be blood.
Police reports indicate that Sani allegedly stabbed 20-year-old Musa Bala in the neck.
During questioning, he failed to provide a motive for the attack, and investigators established that he was a known drug addict who often boasted that he could kill someone without facing consequences.
The suspect has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiries and prosecution.
