Bandits kidnap Niger top govt official, four others

Suspected armed bandits have kidnapped the Council Secretary of Munya Local Government Area, Daina Usman, along with four others in a nighttime raid on his residence in Sarkin Pawa, Niger State.

According to intelligence sources, the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on February 20, when the assailants discreetly entered Usman’s home near the riverbank—a location frequently targeted by criminal groups.

The abducted individuals include Daina Usman, his wife Deborah Daina, Sati Daina, Gambo Shagari, and Sorro, also known as Snu.

Sources told Zagazola that the kidnappers quickly fled with their captives into Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a known hideout for criminal elements.

Following a distress call from local vigilantes, security forces—including personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Sarkin Pawa, the Niger State Police Tactical Team, and vigilante groups—launched a coordinated operation to track down the assailants and rescue the victims. Efforts to locate them remain ongoing.
