The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), under the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has officially transferred ownership of a newly established Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC) to the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa.
The ETC, located on OGITECH’s campus, is designed to enhance students’ digital learning experience while serving as a hub for technological research, innovation, and development.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader objective of bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive access to ICT resources across Nigeria.
A key moment of the handover ceremony, held on Thursday, was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USPF and OGITECH. The agreement ensures the effective utilization and long-term sustainability of the project.
Equipped with 100 desktop computers, high-speed internet connectivity, and emerging technology applications, the Centre provides students and faculty with access to advanced digital tools, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cybersecurity solutions.
Speaking at the event, USPF Secretary Yomi Arowosafe emphasized that the Centre is more than just an infrastructure project—it represents a long-term investment in the future of Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
He highlighted that USPF, under the direction of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has been implementing ICT projects nationwide to expand digital inclusion, especially in underserved areas.
“With a student population of 9,300, OGITECH is one of Nigeria’s leading technology institutions, and we are proud to collaborate on this initiative.
“The ETC will not only enhance learning but also serve as a hub for innovation, research, and entrepreneurial development,” Arowosafe stated.
He further noted that the facility would enable faculty members to integrate digital tools into their teaching and research while also providing start-ups and small businesses with a space to develop and scale their ideas.
OGITECH Rector Dr. Abiodun Oluseye expressed gratitude to USPF and NCC for choosing the institution as the project’s beneficiary.
He assured that the Centre would be maximized for educational and community benefits.
“We are committed to ensuring the sustainability of this project, as outlined in the MoU. This facility will be put to effective use for the benefit of our students, staff, and the larger community,” Oluseye pledged.
The USPF was established by the Federal Government to promote universal access to ICT, particularly in rural and underserved areas, ensuring that more Nigerians can benefit from digital opportunities.
