UCH resident doctors call off strike following power restoration

Must read

Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan have suspended the indefinite strike they initiated a day earlier.

Dr. Uthman Adedeji, General Secretary of the UCH Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), confirmed the development in an interview on Tuesday.

The strike had been triggered by the failure to fully restore electricity to all residential quarters, despite the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) reconnecting the hospital on February 12 after a power outage that lasted over 100 days.

The doctors insisted that all affected residential areas must be reconnected before resuming duties.

Adedeji stated that electricity had now been fully restored to the residential quarters, prompting the association to suspend the industrial action.

“Following an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) held on Tuesday night, we have resolved to suspend the total and indefinite strike, which began at 4:01 p.m. on Monday,” he said.

He further announced that work would resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and urged all members to return to their duty posts accordingly.
