A 35-year-old security guard, Joshua Hassan, has been brought before a Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, over allegations of theft and negligence.

The police have filed two charges against Hassan, accusing him of theft by a servant and negligent conduct.

According to the prosecution, led by Abdullahi Tanko, the case was reported by Bashiru Mohammed, a resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) College of Education, Zuba.

The prosecution alleged that Hassan, who was employed as a security guard at Ifena Filling Station in Gwagwalada, dishonestly took an electrical motor machine valued at N1.28 million in April 2024.

He was also accused of stealing five fuel pump units worth N1.6 million and an armoured cable valued at N400,000, bringing the total loss to N3.28 million.

Investigations revealed that Hassan allegedly sold the stolen motorized electrical machine to one Suleiman Hussani for N15,000.

The prosecutor stated that the alleged offences contravene Sections 316 and 289 of the Penal Code.

Hassan, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Olatunji Oladunmoye granted him bail in the sum of N2 million, requiring two sureties with verifiable addresses within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned until March 12 for further proceedings.
