The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has dismissed circulating reports that its office was taken over by military personnel, labeling the claims as false.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, the commission’s Information Officer, Sadiat Isiaka, addressed the rumors spreading on social media, clarifying that there was no military siege at the OSSIEC headquarters.
Reassuring the public, OSSIEC confirmed that the local government elections scheduled for Saturday would proceed as planned.
The commission urged residents to ignore misleading information and not let false reports discourage them from participating in the electoral process.
“The general public is urged to disregard the false claim that military personnel have sealed off the commission’s premises. Our office remains fully secure with a strong presence of inter-agency security personnel, including the police, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, Amotekun Corps, and the Vigilante Group, all ensuring a safe environment,” the statement read.
The commission also commended security agencies for their efforts in protecting its staff, facilities, and election materials.
It described the false reports as an attempt to spread fear and misinformation among voters.
OSSIEC reaffirmed its commitment to a smooth and transparent election, encouraging the electorate to disregard unfounded claims and fully participate in the upcoming polls.
